The Department of Military Training is a structural unit of the National Defense University of Ukraine that provides training Ukrainian citizens under the reserve officer training program.

The training of Ukrainian citizens under the reserve officer training program at the National Defense University of Ukraine was started in 2001 at the Faculty of Retraining and Advanced Training (correspondence and external studies). In 2018, the Reserve Officers Training Department was reorganized into the Military Training Department of the National Defense University of Ukraine.

From October 2023, the upcoming development of the Department of Military Training at the National Defense University of Ukraine will be entrusted to Colonel Vladimir Grynyuk, Hero of Ukraine.

The training program is carried out for two years, with students attending classes once a week using the military day method.

When entering to the military training department, Ukrainian citizens choose a military specialty from among 14 offered:

  • The combat use of mechanized units;
  • The combat use of artillery units;
  • The combat use of airborne assault units;
  • The combat use of Marine Corps units;
  • The combat use of anti-tank guided missile systems;
  • The combat use of tank units;
  • Operation and repair of armored vehicles;
  • The combat use of engineering and technical units;
  • The combat use of engineering, road construction, and urban planning divisions;
  • Mathematical and software support for automated systems, information security systems, and cyber security;
  • Organization of fire safety;
  • Organization of food, clothing, skipper, and commercial and domestic supplies;
  • Organization of psychological support for staff;
  • Psychology.

The training program covers the basics of general military combat, combat techniques and weapons, moral and psychological support for the daily activities of troops (forces), mathematical and software support for the functioning of automated systems, as well as knowledge and skills in fire, engineering, and medical training.

Citizens of Ukraine who have completed the training program, successfully passed the final exam, and taken the military oath are awarded the rank of second lieutenant in the reserves.

Graduates of the Department of Military Training at the National Defense University of Ukraine have the opportunity to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the state's defense forces.
