The Institute of State Military Management is purposed to train senior management of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military formations and law enforcement agencies in the specialty K3 National Security (in certain spheres of security and activities) in accordance with the purpose, society, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and requirements to the system of knowledge, skills, professional qualities of future specialists, which are formed in the educational process, taking into account the prospects of developing science, technology and military art.
The Institute of State Military Management was established on the basis of the Faculty of Operative and Strategic Level of the National Academy of Defense of Ukraine in March 2010 in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On the National Defense University of Ukraine" and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ”On the Reorganization of the National Academy of Defense of Ukraine“.
During its existence, more than 2000 generals and officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other components of the security and defense sector, as well as civil servants for state authorities and military authorities, have been trained. About 50 graduates of the institute graduated with a diploma with honors and a gold medal.
Much of the graduates of the institute hold senior positions in public administration, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Armed Forces, operational commanders, departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and Headquarters of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, the Heroes of Ukraine studied at the Institute - General Valery ZALUZHNYI, Colonel General Oleksandr SYRSKYI, Lieutenant General Sergey SHAPTALA, Lieutenant General Oleksandr PAVLYUK, Lieutenant General Yuriy SODOL, Lieutenant General Serhiy NAYEV, Major General Andriy KOVALCHUK, Major General Viktor NIKOLYUK, Major General Mykhailo DRAPATIY, Major General Oleksandr TREPAK and many others.
The structure of the institute includes:
- command of the institute;
- department of National Security and Defense Strategy;
- department of Operative Art;
- department of Troop Control;
- department of Territorial Defense;
- educational division;
- students courses.
The main tasks of the institute are:
- implementation of educational activities, which ensures that officers obtain a higher education with a master's degree in a specified specialty and specialization for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations of the state;
- implementation of scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities by conducting scientific research and ensuring the creative activity of participants in the educational process, training scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel of higher qualifications and using the obtained results in the educational process;
- personality development through military-patriotic and legal education, confirmation of leadership and moral values, social activity, civic position and responsibility, healthy lifestyle, ability to think freely and self-organize in modern conditions in the participants of the educational process.
The scientific potential of the institute consists of more than 40 scientists, scientific and pedagogical workers, including 5 doctors of sciences and professors, and more than 30 candidates of sciences (PhD-s).
The most famous scientists are doctors in different fields of science – Vasyl TELELYM, Vyacheslav KOSEVTSOV, Vasyl SERVATYUK.
According to the results of the review-competition to determine the best unit of the university in 2021, the best structural educational and scientific unit among the institutes of the university was nominated as the Institute of State Military Administration.
