The Naval Forces Department is a core structural unit of the National Defence University of Ukraine and is part of the Command and Staff Institute for the Employment of Forces (Troops).

The Naval Forces Department conducts educational activities aimed at training university students in the development, preparation, employment, support, and sustainment of the Naval Forces. It also carries out scientific and scientific-technical activities to support the educational process, develop naval science as a component of military science, and provide scientific justification for decisions taken by the state in the maritime (naval) domain.

Main tasks of the department:

Under the conditions of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the main tasks of the department are:

  • Continuous analysis of the experience of employing forces at sea, developing relevant recommendations, providing them to the command, and integrating them into student training;
  • Training highly educated specialists, future commanders, and chiefs capable of making well-founded decisions and effectively managing forces (troops) during combat operations, defeating the enemy under hybrid warfare conditions;
  • Training military specialists at the “Master” educational and qualification level (operational level) in the specialty “Military Management (by branches of the armed forces)” with specializations:
    • “Combat Employment and Command of Naval Units”
    • “Organization of Combat Employment and Operation of Naval Weapons and Equipment”
  • Training military specialists at the strategic and operational levels for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the Defence Forces on issues of employing Naval Forces in peacetime, combat operations, and campaigns;
  • Training military personnel and civil servants in professional military education and advanced training courses on the employment of Naval Forces;
  • Participation in the training of foreign military specialists;
  • Participation in the training of Doctors of Science and PhDs in the university’s doctoral and postgraduate programs;
  • Conducting research in the development, preparation, employment, support, and sustainment of the Naval Forces, integrating research results into the department’s educational activities;
  • Developing (improving) and scientifically supporting the implementation of military standards for the training, employment, support, and sustainment of Naval Forces;
  • Participating in the preparation and implementation of measures on forming and executing state policy in the maritime sector and in national security and defence in maritime directions;
  • Instilling in students patriotism, leadership qualities, and responsibility for accomplishing assigned tasks.

Department structure:

  • Deputy Head of Department;
  • Academic and teaching staff;
  • Training laboratory.

The department trains and graduates specialists of higher education in one specialization:
Specialty: K5 “Military Management (by branches of the armed forces)”.
Specializations:
Combat Employment and Command of Naval Units;
Organization of Combat Employment and Operation of Naval Weapons and Equipment.
